Cambodia, although not particularly renowned for its extensive zoological facilities, does have a few noteworthy zoos that are home to a variety of animal species. While the country lacks the massive, globally renowned zoos found in some other regions, these Cambodian zoos offer visitors an opportunity to observe and learn about the local wildlife.
Here are 5 of the largest zoos in Cambodia, each with a unique collection of animals:
- Phnom Penh Zoological and Botanical Garden: Located in the heart of Phnom Penh, this zoo is the largest in Cambodia and houses over 1,000 animals representing approximately 200 different species. The zoo is home to a diverse range of animals, including lions, tigers, elephants, bears, monkeys, birds, and reptiles.
- Angkor National Museum Zoo: Situated near the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex, this zoo focuses on conserving endangered Cambodian species. Visitors can encounter animals such as Indochinese tigers, sun bears, pileated gibbons, and Asian elephants.
- Sihanoukville Zoological Park: Located in the coastal city of Sihanoukville, this zoo is known for its collection of marine animals. In addition to terrestrial species, visitors can observe a variety of fish, sea turtles, and other marine creatures.
- Sokimex Zoological Park: Situated in Battambang province, Sokimex Zoological Park is a privately owned zoo that houses over 2,000 animals from around the world. Visitors can see a wide range of species, including zebras, giraffes, hippos, and ostriches.
- Banteay Srei Butterfly Center: Located near the Banteay Srei temple, this center is dedicated to butterflies. Visitors can walk through a netted enclosure filled with hundreds of butterflies of different species, fluttering around and showcasing their vibrant colors.

The elephant show was one of the highlights for me. It was both entertaining and educational. All the animals at the park appeared healthy and well-maintained.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to feed the tiger, elephant, and bear, which was a unique and exciting experience. I also took some captivating pictures with a tiger, which added to the overall enjoyment.
The entry fee of $10 was definitely worth it considering the experience and the chance to see these incredible animals up close. However, I do think the mini train should be free, as it is an additional expense for visitors.
One area that could be improved is the exit process. When leaving the park, we were directed to go through the dool shop side, which might not be the most convenient route for some parents.
On a positive note, visitors can purchase food and drinks at the park, which is convenient. If you’re an animal lover, Phnom Penh Safari is a must-visit destination. The giraffe, although looking a bit lonely, and the parrots seemed happy and free in their environment.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Phnom Penh Safari. The well-trained animals, exciting activities, and the opportunity to interact with them made it a memorable visit. I highly recommend it to fellow animal enthusiasts.

There were dogs and tigere jumping through fire rings and you can buy food to feed the rabbits and fish who lives in a gigantic pond with a giant waterfall2 months agoThe biggest safari in the city. Where you can enjoy the variety of animal shows. While some people enjoy outside activities like elephant and train riding.8 months agoBeautiful place to walk and understand about different attitudes of animals! We can say that it got good and bad. A bit sad about tigers that are not volunteers to do those performances! Just feel the animals here are a bit hungry! Can say except ? that they have to feed them well.4 months agoI recently visited Phnom Penh Safari and had a great time!
